Emtek Products Mortise Entry Handlesets

The new Emtek mortise entry handlesets are designed well and of excellent quality. If you have done your shopping for mortise locksets you will see they are priced to sell. There is no question that mortise versus tubular locksets are designed with precision and provide better security, but installation is not average consumer friendly or for the inexperienced. Very precise drilling and cut-outs are required. See installation template here. We highly recommend professional installation of mortise locksets. If it sounds like we are trying to scare you, we just want you to understand this is not a typical slam-it-in and tighten the screws installation. If your door has been prebored or you are replacing your existing hardware, then this product will NOT work for you. The hole preparation is not a standard preparation you will find in a lumber yard or do it yourself center. Please note: Emtek Mortise Entry Handlesets are Special order - Made to your order, and are non-returnable.  See here for more specs.

Ordering Mortise Entry Handlesets
Mortise locksets are very application specific. When ordering mortise locksets more information is required than normal. You will need to spend a few more minutes getting the below required details and measurements to assure your lock arrives correct for your specific application. We suggest that if this is new construction or you are replacing your front door, to consult with your contractor before purchasing a mortise handleset.

1. Handing - Tubular locksets are only handed when you choose certain levers. Mortise entry locksets are handed regardless of interior options. See Handing

2. Door Swing - The lock box is manufactured so auxiliary latch is setup for the swing of the door. Choosing the correct swing of your door is important as the auxiliary latch will not allow the door to close if it is manufactured for incorrect door swing. See Door Swing

3. Backset - If you are replacing an existing mortise lock box, choose the backset (2-1/2" or 2-3/4") that matches your present application. If this is a new installation and the door has not been cut-out and drilled the backset depends on the width of your door style. In most cases a 2-1/2" backset mortise lockset will work fine. The cut-out depth for a
2-1/2" backset lockbox is 3-1/4". The cut-out depth for a 2-3/4" backset lockbox is 3-1/2". See Backset

4. Door Thickness - Selecting your correct door thickness is important. Emtek's mortise handlesets are manufactured to work with doors ranging 1-3/4" to 2", 2" to 2-1/4", or 2-1/4 to 2-3/4" thick.
